The SB-728SR is one of the UESF's trio of SR (Short Range) carrier-launched starfighters. While the SF-316SR Wasp and the SF-181SR Blade are primarily space superiority fighters, however, the Hammer is intended almost exclusively for use against hard targets such as enemy capital ships and installations.

With thick armor plating and a massive available arsenal, Hammer's are perfectly equiped to make bombing runs and missile strikes against heavy warships and facilities. With a sturdy frame and thick plating, they can (usually) survive the massive hail of light CIWS fire that surrounds capital ships during an engagement long enough to release their ordinance and escape: the Hammer design is so tough, in fact, that they are rumored to be able to occationally survive direct hits from AFM missiles.

Once delivered, the payload from a SB-728 can be devestating. The standard 'Hercules' short-ranged torpedos carried by a Hammer have almost as much punch as the massive 'Cronus' capital-ship launched torpedos, and when fired at point blank, where point-defense weapon systems are far less effective, a barrage can cripple large warships, and outright destroy smaller ones.

The SB-728 does have some major drawbacks, however. While it's tough shell goes a long way towards defending it against attack, it can still be cracked by focused fire. Also, while a Hammer might be able to SURVIVE a single hit from a AFM missile, it would be crippled, and subsequent hits would reduce it to shrapnel. The bulky design and heavy plating also have the major weakness of making the Hammer slow for a starfighter, and reduces the agility and handling to that of a "drunken cow".

Also, its anti-capital armaments leave little room for anti-fighter weapons. The Hammer has only two light missile hardpoints, and its cockpit mounted main guns, while high caliber (for precision strikes on capital ships while moving in for a bombing run), have an abysmally low rate of fire compared to other fighter main guns.

All these factors ensure than the Hammer is an abysmal dogfighter, leaving Hammer squadrons highly vulnerable to enemy interceptors and other space superiority fighters. To help offset this disadvantage, the Hammer is fit with a sophisticated EWAR and countermeasures suite. Also, during engagements, Hammer squadrons are always escourted by flights of Wasp interceptors (if available) or other capable dogfighters.

You suck! You absolutely, undeniably, irreversibly suck!

You suck eggs.

If there was an egg anywhere in the near vicinity of you, you would pick it up and suck on it.

I am incredibly jealous of this. I wracked my brain for WEEKS trying to come up with a decent bomber design, and the final version is still lacking from what i would consider 'good'.

But you... you come in all "Ohhhh, look at me! I'm just gonna prance in here and make this bomber thing that's going to have so much win in it, that I could take some out, make a win sandwich, AND have leftovers!"

It's not fair...why can't I make strike craft this cool looking?

...Also, "Dunken cow"?

Okay, this is kind of funny, the design code name for my Phalanx Missile ship was originally Hammer. Once again awesome description to match the incredibilityness.

And thanks, I'm glad you like it ^_^
